Breakwater Way is just south of Oceanside Harbor; a quiet, family beach. Popular with surfers and volleyball players, the sandbar formed by the meeting between San Luis Rey River and the ocean makes for great surf.

Part of the reason that Breakwater Way is usually one of the least populated beaches is partly because it is open surfing only, and it’s a bit of a walk from the parking areas. However, the amenities more than make up for that:

  • Barbeque grills
  • Picnic tables
  • Volleyball courts (must provide your own net)
  • Fire rings
  • Restrooms
  • Showers

A pay parking lot is located at the east end of Breakwater Way and east of Pacific Street. Metered Parking is also available along Pacific Street.

Surfing is restricted in front of Lifeguard Tower 8 during the summer. Surfers must walk down to the jetty where the San Luis Rey River enters the ocean. It’s a bit of a hike, but when a sandbar forms here, it creates a good surf break.
